Super baby sweater – easy knitting pattern

This is a super sweater as it is an easy knit with impressive results! Using just rib and stocking stitch the sweater is made in in pieces for seaming, and features a dropped sleeve, which means there is no armhole or sleeve head shaping, and the sleeves are easy to sew in place. Choose your colours and stripes carefully, and even a beginner can make an impressive looking sweater!
It is rather a blank canvas for you make of it what you will. Instructions are given to make the stripe pattern as shown in the pictures, but you could make it plain, with contrasting ribs, or with your own stripe pattern—knit it your way!

Note about yarn choice
The striped sample here was made using King Cole Merino Blend DK in shades 41 (Oatmeal) (MC), 46 (Aran) and 43 (Bronze Green). This is a pure wool, anti-tickle, machine washable yarn ideal for babies.

The sweater with contrast trims was made from King Cole Cottonsoft Candy in shade 2852 (Key Lime) for the main colour and King Cole Cottonsoft in shade 3033 (Orchid) for the ribs. This is a 100% cotton supersoft baby yarn available in a wide range of solid, speckled and printed colourways.

The pattern is suitable for any double knitting weight yarn, and there are many DK baby yarns available in a variety of fibres and colours.
