About Us

There is a bit of a story behind Woolly Good Stuff! In 2012 I had a cycling accident, broke my pelvis and found myself laid up for a couple of months. This was at the end of the autumn, so I thought I would use my time productively by knitting some gloves, a hat, a scarf… for the winter. It was mentioned to me that I could sell these things, and before I knew it I had a website and an Etsy shop.

In the beginning I made stuff and sold it online. There were two things that were important to me. The first was that everything I sold was my own original design. The second was that I would use only natural fibres to make my items: the production processes for natural fibres tread more lightly than those for synthetics, they are sustainable, and at the end of their life are biodegradable. These are elements that are very important to me.

After a while I thought about writing up some of my designs as knitting patterns. I found I really enjoyed doing that and had lots of ideas, so now I will design something for a pattern that I won’t necessarily put as a finished item in my Etsy shop. For the reasons stated above, I use natural fibres when I make the samples for my patterns. I am mindful that natural fibre yarns can sometimes be expensive, so I try really hard to find ones that offer value for money without compromising on quality. I don’t receive any commission or have any commercial realationship with any yarn manufacturer, so there is no financial benefit for me in recommending particular yarns. Which is great, because I can use the ones I really like and think are best for my design. Of course any of the yarns I recommend can be can be swapped for others if you want, just keep an eye on your tension (gauge).

Despite the crash I still enjoy cycling.

I hope you enjoy browsing my website and making some of my designs. If you have any questions or pattern queries, you can email me, or use the Contact Form.
