Zig and zag
Fingerless mittens are great for the transition seasons of spring and autumn. These are a quick knit with a simple zig zag cable and purl panel.
Yarn requirements:
Approx 140 m / 155 yds of double knitting yarn
Note: I made my mittens from Sublime Cashmere Merino Silk DK. I just about squeezed them out of a 50g ball (the yarn requirements stated above allow for some contingency). If you use a 100% merino yarn you will probably need a second ball. Check the meterage on your ball band carefully. This pattern is suitable for any DK weight yarn that knits to the correct tension/gauge.
Other supplies:
3¼mm (UK10, US3) dpns, set of four
4mm (UK8, US6) dpns, set of four
Cable needle or spare dpn
Note: you can work most of the mitten using circular needles and the magic loop method if you prefer, but you will need dpns for shaping the top and for the thumbs due to the small number of stitches.
Stitch markers x 3, in 2 different colours
Waste yarn
Tapestry needle
